Waihi is located at the southern end of New Zealand's Coromandel Peninsula, in the Hauraki District. Coined the 'Heart of Gold' because of its three centuries of gold mining that are still active today - the open pit mine is fully operational. To the west are the Kaimai Ranges and the stunning, safe, surf beach called Waihi Beach is 10km away. The area boasts a diverse range of businesses and a rich history. Ohinemuri River courses through the town to the Karangahake Gorge. Recreational activities can be found in abundance including trout fishing, walks and the cycle track called Hauraki Rail Trail.
